Wouldn’t you think that this past summer would have been a downer for the hotel industry as a whole no matter what part of the globe you were traveling to? With the higher fuel prices hitting everyone around the globe right in the wallet this summer and millions of people skipping out on their summer vacation plans this year. Well apparently that was proven to not be the case at a city just north of England, the hotel industry in the city of Leeds is actually up from the number of hotel visitors from last year.

So the question is how is it that this large city of Leeds which actually numbers somewhere over 2000 available hotel rooms. How has the hotel industry there managed to show an increase in their number over last year in the middle of such a terrible global economy.
I think the city of Leeds is a prime example of a city that has gotten fully behind the idea of supporting their tourist industry. Just in the month of August for example the city was host to Yorkshire day celebrations, the Leeds Festival and then there was the test match between England and South Africa. The point is that cities all over the world, at least the smart ones like Leeds have recognized the importance of enticing large events like those to be hosted in their cities to attract visitors not only from neighboring towns but internationally as well.
Things like city wide festivals are great attractions to entice people to come into the city especially in times of financial distress. All the people that skipped out on their long get a way vacations are still in need of some form of getaway and when a city holds a festival and promotes it locally with in their region. That brings in a lot of travel traffic for the hotel industry. Do you think that actions of the city of Leeds is directly responsible for the increase in hotel traffic, with the planning of sporting events and festivals or is it just a coincidence?
